A THOUGHTFUL PROVIDER SEARCH

From directory to a useful first conversation.

A listing can help you find a starting point. These four decisions help you look beyond the card and decide whether a provider may be a good fit.

  1. 01

    Search for fit

Filter by location, specialty, and remote services. Make a short list based on your goals, not listing position alone.

  2. 02

    Check the basics

Verify licensure, relevant training, populations served, and whether the proposed service matches the concern you want to address.

  3. 03

    Ask before booking

Discuss assessment, evidence, possible risks, alternatives, session schedule, expected costs, and who will provide the care.

  4. 04

    Agree on a review plan

Name the daily-life goals, how progress and unwanted effects will be tracked, and when the plan will be reconsidered.

A directory is a discovery tool, not a clinical endorsement. Keep asking questions if the provider’s scope, proposed approach, costs, or plan for tracking progress are unclear.

Listing placement is not a clinical endorsement. Ask providers about licensure, relevant training, and the services they offer. You can also consult the BCIA practitioner directory.
